SNOHOMISH WASHINGTON
Our Story
Owned by the Earl Winehart Post #96 American Legion, the Grand Army of the Republic Cemetery is the Snohomish area's largest Public Memorial Park.
For over a century, the G.A.R. Cemetery has been providing the historic Snohomish area with a quality burial ground at reasonable cost. We are a non-profit, fully endowed care cemetery.
Established in 1898 by the Morton Post No. 10, the historic cemetery is one of two in the Puget Sound area and the only independently active and maintained Civil War Cemetery in the state of Washington. Approximately two hundred Civil War Veterans are buried within these grounds.

Memorial Day Event
Memorial Day originated after the Civil War, when many communities held tributes to honor the more than 620,000 soldiers who died. In 1868, Major General John A. Logan, the Commander-in-Chief of the Grand Army of the Republic, chose May 30 as a day to decorate the graves of Union soldiers. The day was originally called "Decoration Day".
Wreaths Across America
Wreaths Across America was founded in 1992 by Maine businessman Morrill Worcester to continue and expand the annual wreath-laying ceremony at Arlington National Cemetery.
You can help Wreaths Across America by volunteering, participating in the ceremony, or supporting the organization's programs.
